Little Land of Adventures, Ferryhill

Updated: Aug 18

AD|PR visit

Little Land of Adventures relocated to Ferryhill Sport And Education Centre in May 2024 so I returned to write an updated blog.

Address; Ferryhill Sports and Education Centre, Lambton Road, Ferryhill, DL178TB

It’s a great choice of venue and lots of work has clearly put in to getting it looking fab for opening and having all the toys ready for the kids 😀

💜Your entry to the role play cafe includes the sensory room and outdoor garden play area. From what we experienced today I think it’s really good value for what’s included! £4 , which includes the garden, role play cafe and sensory room (if there’s no classes on during your visit).

PLUS, if you go to a baby toddler class/playgroup upstairs with them you then get half price entry before or after your class!! (Please check with the venue in case this changes since publishing)

💜The outdoor garden area was a hit with Leo, he was very excited seeing it when we got there! Lots of different outdoor toys and activities to play with for different interests, mostly aimed at toddlers, but up to 9 years old are welcome. Some toys when we were there included water play, a sand pit, a tunnel, some slides, mud kitchen area, Lego, lots of ride ons, diggers and more!

💜It was safe and enclosed (you need to press a buzzer for the gate to be opened) with nowhere for them to escape or for people to just come into the garden area. I felt so relaxed taking photos and videos without worrying where Leo was as I could always see/hear him.

💜There is an outdoor seating area too with some tables and parasols and children’s picnic tables next to the bigger tables and a book reading area which was cute.

💜They have a small indoor role play within the cafe area, which is great for when the weather isn’t so great or if wanting to sit inside for a bit. Leo enjoyed being in here too, it could get busy though I imagine so having the outdoor area is a bonus.

💜They also have a baby sensory room open certain hours when classes aren’t running (I didn’t visit this today so I’ve included some images from a follower, Julie who visited shortly after me). Julie said in her review that the sensory room was ‘a decent size offering a quiet and peaceful ambience with lots of different toys and resources to access, and Coby particularly liked the ball pool jumping in and out to scare everyone! 🤣🤗

💜There’s a large FREE car park on site and right next to the entrance to the garden/role play cafe. And there are disabled bays too (to the left of the main building entrance you will see the sign on the wall for Little Land of Adventures and an intercom to press next to the secure garden gate to be let in).

💜They have the most friendliest staff too, really helpful and just down to earth. I was the only person in there and I felt so relaxed when usually I would find it awkward if the only one there!

💜The food menu is the same as offered previously in Newton Aycliffe (their previous venue now closed). It’s a good adequate choice they offer for lunch/snack which I think is suitable for this type of venue. They do try to cater to allergies/offer substitutes if you let them know. Good value for food too! For example a kids picnic box with 6 items including, sandwich, drink and snack choices for £4.75! Leo got this today and the sandwich was kindly substituted for a cheesy crumpet as Leo is a bit fussy with bread at the moment (and he still didn’t eat the crumpet but ate his snacks!😅)

💜Walk ins are accepted usually for the role play cafe/play garden area (recommended to call to reserve a table as they are limited). Unless a special event is on, then it usually needs to booking.

💜They are open weekends and after school sessions are available too!

Definitely worth a visit, it will be great on the warmer days and somewhere to meet up for the kids play date and for you to have catch up with friends too.

❣️TIP-Tuesday mornings are currently quieter whilst the playgroup is on upstairs if you want a quiet time to visit as many regulars go to the playgroup instead. We were there around 10:30-12 and only ones there today, but usually there are a few more even on quiet days. Once playgroup finishes though it may get busier. Always best to check ahead with them what’s on etc.

The outdoor area was definitely a hit with Leo and the fact I can bring my eldest Kamron (8) after school or weekends makes this a good choice for us, especially because it’s on the ground floor for the areas we visited today (so my husband can come along with ease too). And it’s all close to each other to get to the indoor play or to the garden depending on the weather.

Accessibility Note: Playgroup is on upstairs. Baby toddler classes are all in the baby sensory room downstairs. Downstairs is all on a level, but the role play cafe area is small so may not be fully accessible for wheelchairs however they will be accommodating where they can. Outside there is plenty of space and tables. The staff are very understand and accommodating of SEND requirements.
