North Park, Darlington

Updated: Jul 21

If you live in Darlington or are visiting, Darlington has quite a few decent local play areas.

North Park just off North Road is one of our most visited as it suits both my kids ages well (2 and 8) and not too far for us.

There’s a basket ball/football court, zipline, a play area for older kids with climbing frames, roundabouts, swings etc and a play area for toddlers with swings for babies. Both have plenty of play equipment which is pretty decent for a free public park. The toddler area is fenced off with gates so it’s safe for little ones to not run off.

There’s plenty of grass with picnic benches for picnics and to have a kick about with a football and there’s some goal posts at the other end of the park. The paths are fairly even surfaces throughout the park (Sophia my niece manages with her walker and it’s a good place for her to practice her walking). There are also cycle tracks around the park grounds too.

There’s also a BMX track, we keep forgetting to bring Kamrons bike for him to have some practice on this but will have to definitely do this one time!

And there’s a bowls club too although I’m not sure how much activity there is, if interested in this please follow https://www.facebook.com/darlingtonnorthparkbowlsclub

🐶 I would also say the park is good for dog walkers, there’s lots of grass for them, dog litter bins and it’s fenced off around most of the park grounds (except the end where the footballs goals are this is open onto a main road). I don’t personally have a dog though so if visiting I would keep them on a lead till you feel comfortable and ofcourse around other dogs on leads.

GETTING THERE

🚘 If driving, there’s no allocated parking as such as it’s just a local public park but you can park at the far end of Cumberland Street, Zetland Street or Brougham Street or at the end of these streets next to the park itself on Haig Street. Haig Street may be preferred by local residents as it’s not directly outside their properties if you park on the side right next to the park(See the map in images below).

🚌 There’s plenty of local buses that stop on North Road too, if you get off the stop at St Thomas Aquila’s Church this is probably the closest.
