We finally made it to RSPB Saltholme this morning, been meaning to go for a while it was just waiting until the weather got a bit better!

It was really nice to go for a walk and some fresh air with the boys, and the sun was out a little, even if a bit windy. Kamron enjoyed using the binoculars to try and spot birds as it was a new experience for us. My cousin and two of her daughters and my aunty showed up too which was nice. The adventure playground at the end was definitely a hit with all the kids!!

🌟Highlights🌟

🐦Disabled and pushchair accessible on the trails and in the main building and lower parts of the hide. Disabled car parking spaces close to the main building.

🐦 Lots of hides to spot the birds from (on a less windy day and better binoculars)- and also warm up a little!

🐦There are a few different nature trails, we walked to the saltholme pools hide and back up to the lake meeting my cousin at Paddy’s Pool Hide half way.

🐦Lots to involve kids including an Alice in wonderland themed table to sit at, a water play feature, sculptures and interesting information boards and facts about different birds and insects.

🐦Lots of benches and picnic tables in various areas along the trails.

🐦The huge nature inspired fully accessible adventure play area which we went to add the end was fab!! The kids loved this. Leo woke up from his nap just in time to enjoy a play.

🐦Colouring in sheets and pens for the kids available indoors next to grab and go snacks and drinks area near the reception. There was also a gift shop too and a cafe upstairs (lifts available).

🐦They do lots of different events throughout the year included with entry such as extra activities for the kids and special trails.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It would be a great place to visit in summer, although it is right near an industrial complex it is surprisingly peaceful! The dragonfly path, as well as bees and butterflies in the pollination and walled gardens would also be great to see in summer too.
We didn’t see many birds today but I think the wind made it more difficult to see through the juniors binoculars we hired for Kam, and getting clear enough photos as they were quite far away. We did manage to tick a couple off the Big Garden Birdwatch sheet we were given. Kamron really got into it at first I think he was just disappointed he couldn’t see them too good but he enjoyed it still.
COST?
We aren’t members here but it’s £5 per adult entry and free for under 5s and the first child then £2.50 per child after this. You don’t need to book, just pay on the day.
If you want to become an RSPB member giving you free access to many RSPB reserves across the UK, it costs from £6 per month for a family membership of 2 adults and up to 3 kids. For us it wouldn’t be worth it but if you have older kids and would visit atleast 5 times in a year then this may be a more cost effective option, plus you would be helping to support RSPB and all their work.
